$200 Cash Stolen From Hopatcong Car
Police said man's car door was open, cash and iPad were taken from vehicle.
Hopatcong police are investigating the apparent theft of items from a vehicle parked on Wake Forest Trail Saturday night.
Police said the owner of the car was at a party at a friend's house around 8:45 p.m. when another attendee of the party went outside to walk their dog and noticed the car door open. An iPad and $200 cash was missing from the car.

No offense, but...
In this day and age, anyone who leaves a few hundred in cash plus expensive electronics in their car might as well leave it on the front yard with a FREE sign next to it.

I totally agree - And Hopatcong doesn't have a great reputation, with LOTS of shady characters who thrive on this type of activity

I agree as well. I have lived here for 20 years and I have never left my car open or house unlocked. People used to tease me saying I was being paranoid cause I moved here from NYC. I would tell them there is a big difference between paranoia and common sense. If you want your stuff to remain your stuff, take a second out to lock the door. If that doesn't work, do what I did and get a big dog that doesn't like strangers helping themselves to your hard earned stuff while your out.

Seriously. Do people not see the news or read the Patch? Every other day there are reports of cars being broken into or just opened because doors were left unlocked. If your expensive items, or cash that you left lying around in plain site in your car is stolen, consider it your own fault. Don't leave that stuff in your car period whether you lock it or not.

leaving it unlocked just makes it easy for them...earlier reports of other vehicles being broken into - not all were left open - i agree, hello people, lock your house and cars. i just want to know when the police dept is going to start doing some police work every other day it seems there is a theft going on and the police are investigating...really? what about setting up some decoys in the areas of these robberies and catching the person responsible...i know hunters have camera's they position on their bait and watch when the deer come in and the best time to be there. not much difference you are hunting a criminal he is not going to walk through your door with his hands up! i don't know 3 vehicles burglarized on elmira & brown...2 others on geneva & williams...hudson ave...home break ins...and no end in sight!
