Burglarized Home Had Video Games, Cologne Taken, Cops Say

Hopatcong police are investigating an apparent home burglary where more than $2,000 worth of video games and consoles and $200 worth of cologne was allegedly stolen from an Elmira Trail home on Thursday.
The total value of allegedly stolen items is nearly $5,000, according to a report released by Lt. Thomas Kmetz.
According to Kmetz, the resident of the house came home to find the dog outside and a screen window torn and on the ground. The rest of the doors to the home were locked, the resident told police. The apparent burglary is believed to have occurred between 3 p.m. and 1:40 a.m.
When the resident returned home, three video game consoles (two Nintendo Wii consoles-valued at nearly $450 total-and an Xbox 360 with Kinect-valued at $299) were missing, as well as a Dell computer valued at $600 and a SONY television valued at $1,000.
The report stated that the $2,000 worth of video games allegedly stolen included titles such as Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers (Wii), Assassins Creed 3 (Xbox), Doom 3 (Xbox), Skyword Sword (Wii), Rock Band (Wii) and the associated drum set.
About $200 worth of DVDs were also reported stolen, along with $200 worth of cologne.
Neighbors did not see or hear anything suspicious at the home, Kmetz said. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 973-398-5000.

We live on Knox, and there was a guy canvassing the area for paving work to be done on Saturday. Not sure if there's any connection but something just felt off about him between my fiance and I. I hope they catch this scumbag fast!

It would be a good idea, specially now after Sandy and so many “contractors” around, to call police if you get some guy knocking on the door looking for work. If he’s ligit, fine but if not the police might get the jump on another break in, or worse. In a small town like Hopatcong we mostly know who is a contractor or not, we see their trucks around all the time. Most Hopatcong contractors don’t do door to door in the first place.
