Cops: Officer Helps Woman Breathe After OD
The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Hopatcong officers had to help a Sparta woman breathe after she overdosed on heroin, police said.
Tara Fletcher, 25, was brought to the Hopatcong police department "unconscious, blue in the face and barely breathing," at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Lieutenant Thomas Kmetz said.
So Officer Richard Sadowski administered rescue breathing with a bag valve mask connected to an oxygen bottle, police said. Fletcher regained consciousness when the Hopatcong ambulance squad gave her naloxone moments later, police said.
Fletcher was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

BeachBum, perfect name for you!! You have nothing better to do with your time other then to bash Hopatcong? How about thanking our police department for saving this women's life, from SPARTA!! Maybe they'll be saving your life one day, would that shut you up? You are so ignorant in thinking that Hopatcong is "the town" to get your drugs!!! Hopatcong is the town druggies get busted in though, HA. Eat that and shut up!!!

I'm guessing Beachbum only reads the News and Police section of Hopatcong Patch. Hopatcong is doing so many positive things and he loves all the juicy gossip. Get a life! I only wish that more towns have a Patch so we can actually see the problems in other communities and stop being so ignorant thinking hOPATCONG is the only place with problems!

First and foremost, Kudos to Officer Richard Sadowski for taking the actions that saved this young woman. Maybe this time around she will get it, stay in recovery and change her life. I pray she finds it within her to do so.
Now, let me get this straight, a police officer saved this woman's life and all you can do is bash Hopatcong? Understand this, yes ... you can get drugs in Hopatcong but also in every surrounding town as well. Yes, we have a problem but we are not alone. Most of the heroin comes from Newark, Irvington and Paterson. Which means, someone has to go down and get it.
Get the dealers and the runners!

I'm loving all my fellow Hopatcong neighbors defending our town and HPD. I thought I was the only one sickened by all the Hopatcong bashing. Bad mouthing our town and sitting on your butt makes you part of the problem. I highly doubt we have major heroin dealers here. Just as Taking A Stand says they go to Paterson, Newark, Irvington, and some may even go into NYC and bring it back and probably sell it for twice as much here.
Every town has their share of crime and trouble makers and if you look into it you will see Hopatcong has much less than others. I am willing to bet that the police have a lot to do with it. Unless, the alternative crime fighting tool which consists of sitting on your couch doing nothing but complaining about the fact that the police do nothing, blah, blah, blah, blue tarp, etc is actually scaring the criminals away. Here's a suggestion why don't you take a breath and realize that when you bash your hometown you bash yourself and try backing the police for a change because they work very hard to keep us safe. Thank you Officer Sadowski for saving a life and hopefully setting a young lady in need of help on the right path.

AMEN Roseanne, It's our town & we need to have pride in it. It's our police officers that protect & serve us, at times by putting thier own lives in jepordy to do so. How can we ever repay them for all that they do for us & our town? We can't!! It's probably the negative people that will need them most one day or the ones that our police department need to get off of our streets!!

I used to live in Hopatcong myself but no longer do, thank god. People in the town need to realize that this town has been going down hill with heroin for the last couple of years. If you live in Hopatcong & say there isn't a problem, people need to wake up. Everytime I bring up Hopatcong to someone out of town, all they associate the town with is HEROIN!!!! But I guess Hopatcong residents don't see this as a problem, SMH.

Jbski, I used to live in a RICH town, guess what, the kids had more money to buy their hard core drugs with. My father moved us to there from Newark, praying to get his kids away from all the drug dealers at McDonalds. It's in every town, it's not gonna just go away. My husband & I moved here about 20 years ago, guess what, YOUR WRONG!! We see less of a problem here, not that it isn't here but less & at least our police department cares enough to deal with the problem, more then I saw in other towns. I have to ask, why do you always bring up HEROIN to those you speak to?? You sound like you know a bit to much about it. Ignorance must be bliss!!! Glad you no longer live here, don't come back!!!! I'm so tired of those that bash Hopatcong, This article is about someone taking a women in need of help to our police department rather then her own, Sparta, & our police officer Sadowski saved her life!! Why do you make it all about Heroin being in our town?? What, did you move to Irvington?? JUST SHUT UP & STAY AWAY!!!

@ Josie - LMFAO at u thinking I live in Irvington. U sound ignorant yourself. Believe me, I really don't like coming back to the town because it's the same people at the same places getting into trouble. Tell me how the school system there is, LOL. The town has went downhill big time. And if u say it hasn't, then you need a reality check. I feel bad for the police officers for the fact that they're probably underpaid. And if u think I'm lying about everything that I've said, ask people around town. I know other town residents that can't wait to move out of town.

@ Jbski, thank you for not coming back to town!! Same people get into trouble, well no problems in my home & I would never allow my children to be around trouble! How's the school system, OMG, I have 2 children in the school system. One is HIGH HONOR the other has all A's other then a B+ & is in a colledge prep. class that our system provides, idiot. Yep, all towns went down hill when they allowed anyone w/a shopping cart to be able to purchase a home, no I'm not happy about the people that moved in at that time, but they are the ones that are leaving!! Yep, our police officers are under paid, as are all, but yet they still manage to save lives & get durgs off of our streets. Ask other people in town, why? I've raised two beautiful, intellgent, strong children here. After 20 some odd years, I am part of this town, just no druggie & would never be able to tell you how to get any or who does it!! You know town residents that can't wait to move, what are they waiting for??? You just on the picked wrong person here & yea, you sound IGNORANT. Back to my previous statement, how do you feel about our police dept. saving this women's life? That's what the article is about, the poor women saved by our officer came from Sparta, yet they felt more comfy coming to our police dept. for help, which they got. God Bless officer Sadowski.

i will admit our town is not the only town with a heroin problem, every town has one, but our police officers are not doing all they can to stop it. Yes, it is amazing that he saved her life and I pray she gets her life on track. But there is alot more these officers can be doing to stop this problem. They have been busting alot of the kids for smoking pot, which no is not okay either. But I was talking to one of our officers, im going to leave him un named for the sake of not starting a war, and I said to him, you know you guys seem to be focusing alot on the kids smoking pot, dont you think you guys should be focusing more on all the heroin dealers in town? His responce was " You and me seem to be the only people who think this way" I have even heard one of the big heroin dealers in town BRAGGING about how he pays off the police to leave him alone! And he is not the first person I have heard say this. Yes every town has a drug problem, but ours is alot more serious then I think people would like to admit. And our police can be doing alot more to stop it!

First of all, i'm a SHE not a he hence the " MS " and you want to call me an idiot? Second of all im not on any kind of drugs, I am a single mother to a beautiful baby boy. And I personally do not hang out with heroin dealers, every one in this town loves to talk and word gets around fast. And you know what, I have gone to the police and spoken to them on more then one occasion, giving them every piece of information I could to help with this problem. Before you all want to point your fingers and bash people, get all your facts straight first because you my friend look like the idiot. Your lovely Hopatcong Police dont do the best job they can be doing, sitting at the Grotto all night must be more important to them.

So sorry, your grammer had me confused since it would be Ms. c..., i'm, should be I'm. What's w/the quotation marks in "MS" since you are not repeating another person's statement? Never start a sentence w/a conjunction as you did several times w/And. So who's calling whom an idiot? Word only gets around when they know or think someone would be interested, most people say "it takes one to know one". AWESOME, if you did give the police the proper info.!!! Great job since it could be saving your "beautiful baby boy" from addiction or death one day!! As for the Grotto, love their food, I stongly feel our police officers deserve a brake & something to eat so they have the energy to do their jobs. I'm sure you know our officers are working 12 hour shifts. Some at night, some during the day, some more as I understand. Again, GOD BLESS OFFICER SADOWSKI!! Hope to see you at The Grotto one night so I can buy you all dinner for all you do for Hopatcong!!

Mrs.Skinny, my mother in law lives right up the road form the grotto. When I pass the grotto to go to my mother in laws with my children and then I leave about 2-3 hours later and the police are STILL sitting INSIDE the grotto, thats a problem. Take a break and eat, yes but to sit in a pizza place while on duty for 2-3 hours, inappropriate!

I am honostly disgusted by all of you, I stated my opinion and I get bashed? Josie you clearly do nothing with your life besides sit on the patch and gossip. You are truelly pathetic for bring my BABY into this. God watches everything sweetie and he see's your ugliness. I'll pray for all of you judgemental, bad mouthing people. MSconfidentiality--Let me start by saying my husband and I dine at The Grotto quite often. Yes, we have seen officers there but never for hours at a time. They get there, get their food and more often than not they get a call before they can finish. Most of the time they take their food "to go". You accuse others of "bashing" people yet you seem to have no problem "bashing" our Police Officers. I have had a few conversations with several of them and know others personally. You will not find a harder working, community minded, dedicated group of men and women. Many of them volunteer their time for town activities. I highly doubt the words you quoted from the mystery officer you spoke with is a true quote. If anything, their frustration comes from arresting the same people over and over again and seeing them back in town a couple of days later. There are many negative things you can say about Hopatcong but our Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and EMT's are top notch.

Tammy, I agree that the Fire Fighters, EMT's and Police officers are all fine men and women but I have passed the grotto many times and seen them sitting inside for at least more then an hour at a time. Not trying to start a fight just voicing my opinion

MSconfidentiality;I'm sorry if you feel I involvled your baby in this article about officer sadowski saving a women's life, I did get that info. from you, not myself! So allow me to thank you, only if you did help our police depatment, by helping them track down these herion dealers on behalf of my 2 beautiful children. That honor truly goes to officer bob from D.A.R.E., & they taught me what they learned from him. I don't have enough time to just sit here & gossip on patch but see that you have as much time as I do. I get up at 6:00 a.m., made breakfest for my family, packed their lunch, got them off to work/school, after I'm done w/going through my e-mail's, I start my very busy day which doesn't end until I've feed my husband & children a homecooked meal & clean up. So you see my side, I owe MY LIFE to police officers that saved my life after a women crashed into me, changing life forever!! That's what they do sweetie, they save lives. How could you ever bash them? When you bash the town I live in & our P.D., E.M.T., firefighters, animal control, ect. then you bash me to & you have done more then your fair share of bashing, so please don't judge. GOD is always w/me, he blessed me & my husband w/a beautiful family. You just don't know me to make such comments, nor our police department.
