Cops: Underage Man Drove Drunk

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Wharton man drove drunk and wasn't even old enough to drink, police said.

Officer David Kraus stopped a car for the driver's failure to keep right on Lakeside Boulevard at 3:27 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Kraus could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of Mathew Weissman, 20, police said. Wiessman, who failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and taken to the Hopatcong police department, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated while underage, reckless driving, failure to keep right and failure to notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles of a change of address, police said.

Weissman was later released to a friend, police said.
