I had no idea residents couldn't put up this type of deer fencing! Everyone needs it to save expensive plants & landscaping from being decimated by deer.

Camo tarps are the way to go. For a few extra "bucks" they do the same job and give your mobile home much curb appeal!

I had this up around my garden a couple of years ago. They chewed through it, pushed through it, ripped it and I had a baby deer get stuck in it after a herd ripped through it. Not worth the $$ to put it up.

The fencing is just a speed bump to a hungry deer population. It only works if your neighbor doesn't have one. Once the whole neighborhood gets this fencing the deer will just gnaw away at the fencing. This is just a band-aid to a bigger problem. I believe for many the town has responded too late on the deer fencing issue. The real issue is what is Hopatcong doing to reduce the deer population. There was discussion on allowing bow hunting. I have not heard anything further on these discussions at the Town Meetings that I have attended. The answer to the problem is not going to be a pretty one and I am sure will become a political hot button for any politician to address and so we are stuck with the fencing - the deer speed bump solution.

Unless the council allows fencing on all four sides, fencing is useless. I have 4ft. fences all around my property. They just jump the fences. We must do something and fast.

Master Blaster - Yes you translated this dilemma here in your own very crude but factual way. There is no easy and political correct way to rid ourselves of the deer. As you pointed out Bow hunting is very impractical. Fencing does not eliminate the problem but controls it to a limited degree. I am not a fool, but bow hunting may be a foolish venture. I was not the one advocating it at the Town Meeting merely stating the discussion that took place since so few of us attend these town meetings and I do enjoy baking.

controlled deer hunts are th eonly solution. there has to be some vacant land that they could bait deer to and shoot with archery equipment from an elivated stand?

How about government funded deer birth control? Oops, I forgot, we can't do that, this is a Repug town!

I think there are other eye sores in the yards of this town that have to be taken care of before the specifications of a deer fence...

There are so many other things this town could spend their time on. It is really sad that the time at a meeting is wasted voting on the color of a deer fence.

I thought land use board & mayor and council was the same thing. Why waste time, just make it law.

I don't understand why sharp shooters couldn't be brought in to just take care of the problem. Announce the date so everyone would stay in their homes to further prevent the possibility of an accident. Or just shoot them with tranquilizing darts an then have them euthanized. Seems like another reasonable solution to the problem.
