Get Out! Do Something Fun Near Hopatcong

You know, in case this whole hurricane thing blows over.

You don't want to be home. You want to be out.

How do we know? Well, we're Patch, and we know (almost) everything.

OK, while that was a stretch, we're sure you'd rather be having fun this weekend instead of, say, working. So don't. Take take a look at our weekly "Get Out!" feature, in which we detail some of the area's best events. This week, maybe you'll want to pick up running as a hobby in Morristown or check out Long Valley's fireworks.

Senior Yoga Classes 
Where/When: From 11 to 12:45 a.m. on Thursday at the Washington Township Senior Citizen Center in Long Valley.
Why Go: Because the center will be offering two types of yoga classes, including “chair” yoga and “gentle” yoga, directed by instructor Charlene Gattuso.
Pricing: $10 per class, or $37 for six classes.

Beginner Group Run
Where/When: From 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Morristown Running Company.
Why Go: To enjoy a fun beginner group run. 
Pricing: Free.

Events and Crafts
Where/When: At 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Butler Public Library.
Why Go: Children ages 3 to 6 can come enjoy stories and have fun making crafts to take home.
Pricing: Free.

Zumba Fitness Class
Where/When: From 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Butler VFW, 69 Carey Avenue in Butler.
Why Go: Because you’d like to enjoy this Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning, dance fitness class.
Pricing: $10.

Yoga
Where/When: At 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Montville Township Public Library.
Why Go: To practice your poses at these free bi-weekly yoga sessions. Don’t forget to dress comfortably.
Pricing: Free.

Kevin M. Walsh Fireworks Festival
Where/When: From 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at the Long Valley Middle School.
Why Go: Because there will be bounce houses, rock-climbing walls, food vendors, live music and a fireworks display.
Pricing: $5 for all-you-can-play bracelets for children.

Columbia Trail Tromp
Where/When: Event begins at 7 a.m. for bikers and runners, 8:30 a.m. for walkers at Somerset Hills Bank in Long Valley.
Why Go: Because it benefits cancer research.
Pricing: $20 per person, $10 per senior, $50 for a family of four.

Self Defense Classes at St. Jude’s 
Where/When: From 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday at St. Jude's Parish in Hopatcong.
Why Go: To learn the ability to defend yourself in potentially life-threatening situations with the help of the Gen Lee Ju-Jitsu Club.
Pricing: $10 per class.

Karaoke
Where/When: From 9 to 11 p.m. on Thursday at Lakeside Grill Restaurant and Bar in Hopatcong.
Why Go: It’s karaoke. What else do you need to know?
Pricing: Free.

The Mothers’ Club
Where/When: From 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday at Postpartum Place in Chatham.
Why Go: Mothers and their babies can come to this fun, social time and receive expert advice in a safe and supportive environment. 
Pricing: Free.

Senior Bingo
Where/When: At 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Parsippany Community Center.
Why Go: It's a great way for Parsippany adults ages 55 and older to spend an afteroon.
Pricing: Free.

Anime Club
When/Where: From 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Hillsborough Public Library.
Why Go: To discuss the latest Manga titles and videos. Naruto and Bleach are even better with when hanging with library friends.
Pricing: Free.

Music Under the Stars
When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Warren Township Municipal Complex in Warren.
Why Go: To welcome the jazz sounds of Landon Peer and Karl Dietel on their first Under the Stars performance.
Pricing: Free.

Laura Hull Jazz Trio
When/Where: From 8 to 11 p.m. on Thursday at Uproot Restaurant in Warren.
Why Go: Because jazz vocalist Laura Hall presents a program of American popular songs, jazz standards and Brazilian music.
Pricing: No cover charge.

Hollywood's Fantastic Science
When/Where: From 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday at the Environmental Center at Lord Stirling Park in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Children ages 7 to 9 will discover how science was used to create the excitement of "Ice Age."
Pricing: $9 per person. Registration required.

Early American Silversmiths Exhibition
Where/When: From 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum in Morristown.
Why Go: Because the exhibit focuses on the three centers of American silver-making in the 18th century—featuring Boston, New York and Philadelphia silversmiths and exploring the master-apprentice relationships.
Price: Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for those 12 and under.

Kip & Mr. Microphone 
Where/When: From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday KaBob's at the Northwood Inn.
Why Go: To bring the whole family by and belt out some tunes with Kip.
Pricing: Free.

Family Yoga
Where/When: From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Jefferson Township Public Library.
Why Go: Families can enjoy the benefits of yoga by learning a variety of classic poses, presented by Michelle Magnotti of Yoga Flows Inc.
Pricing: Free.

Learn Spanish
Where/When: At 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Bloomingdale Free Public Library.
Why Go: To learn to speak, read and write in Spanish.
Pricing: Free.

Free Friday at the YMCA
When/Where: All day on Friday at the Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: It's your last chance to try any of the YMCA's programs, including the pool. Don't miss this great opportunity for fitness and fun.
Pricing: Free, but for Somerset County residents only.

Summer Game Days
When/Where: From 9:30 a.m. to closing on Friday and Saturday at the Warren Township Library in Warren.
Why Go: To drop in anytime and enjoy a variety of board games. "Connect Four" or just connect with friends.
Pricing: Free.

The Fuzzbox Teen Center
Where/When: From 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at 214 West Mill Road in Long Valley.
Why Go: The Fuzzbox is a place for students in grades seven through 12 can hang out in a fun, supervised atmosphere where they can go to be involved in sports, games, music, art, and more, while being provided with free food and drinks. Fridays are for high school students and Saturdays are for middle school students.
Pricing: Free.

Outdoor Photography Display
Where/When: From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Washington Township Senior Citizen Center in Long Valley.
Why Go: Because it’s a celebration of Long Valley resident Michael Goodwin’s outdoor photography.
Pricing: Free.

Accidental Death of an Anarchist
Where/When: From 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison.
Why Go: Because enjoying Dario Fo’s brilliantly funny, scathing political farce is a terrific way to spend your weekend.
Pricing: $32 to $55.

Alexander Technique With Michael Veilleux
Where/When: From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Studio Yoga in Madison.
Why Go: Because this exercise technique can help you relieve pain and tension, develop greater flexibility, and optimize your performance in activity.
Pricing: Individual class for $35, or five Weeks for $150.

Comedian Jim Brewer Live
Where/When: At 8 p.m. on Saturday at Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.
Why Go: Because a Saturday night laughing at Jim Brewer’s antics sounds like loads of fun.
Pricing: $32 to $67.

Saturday Morning Road Ride
Where/When: Starts at Marty’s Reliable Cycle in Morristown, makes its way through Harding and Chatham, then back to Morristown, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.
Why Go: The pace will be moderate for this 20-mile ride. So if you’re looking to get back into tip-top shape for the summer, this weekly bike road might be a good way to start.

All-Abilities Run
Where/When: 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Morristown Running Company.
Why Go: To start off your Saturday with a 5-mile group run and finish it off with a free bagel.

Morris Plains Farmers Market
Where/When: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Merchant Block of Morris Plains.
Why Go: You can pick up some homemade mozzarella and ravioli, freshly baked bread and some of New Jersey's best cheesecakes.
Pricing: Bring your wallet.

Know Your Numbers: Healthy Lifestyle Challenge
Where/When: From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Chatham New Jersey Transit Station.
Why Go: Because it’s a great way to start keeping track of what you eat and your amount of physical activity each week.
Pricing: Free.

Chatham Borough Farmers Market 
Where/When: From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Railroad Plaza and Fairmont Avenue in Chatham.
Why Go: To get some of the best Jersey Fresh produce, Jersey Shore seafood, pasture-raised meat, poultry and eggs, honey, baked goods, fresh mozzarella, specialty prepared foods of all kinds and more. The market will also have cooking demonstrations.
Pricing: Bring your wallet.

Workout for St. Jude
Where/When: At 10 a.m. on Saturday at Goperformance & Fitness in Parsippany.
Why Go: Because not only can you workout, but you can raise money for a good cause at the same time.
Pricing: Free.

Ballroom Dance Social
When/Where: From 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at G&J Studios in Hillsborough.
Why Go: Because it's a great night of socializing, dancing and fun. Partners are not required so maybe that special someone will dance your way.
Pricing: $15 per person.

HHS Boys Soccer: Car Wash
When/Where: From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Hillsborough Elementary School in Hillsborough.
Why Go: Ride away shining while supporting Raiders soccer.
Pricing: $5 per car.

Build Your Own Mini School Locker
When/Where: At 10 a.m. on Saturday at Lowes in Hillsborough.
Why Go: Because building and decorating this awesome locker will make back-to-school a little bit brighter.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

Rock and Roll at Rolf's
When/Where: From 9 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at Rolf's Restaurant in Warren.
Why Go: To enjoy classic rock and roll performed by H.S.R (Hard Scrabble Road) in a setting that's all about comfort and tasty food.

The County Caper  and The County Caper Accelerated
When/Where: At 8 a.m. on Saturday for adults and on Saturday and Sunday for the family-friendly adventure. The events begin at the Environmental Education Center at Lord Stirling Park in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because it's "The Amazing Race," Somerset County-style. This interactive game will have participants traveling throughout the Somerset County parks and facilities performing tasks and racing each other. Its' not just a game. It's an adventure.

Open Hours at the Urban Farm
Where/When: From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at The Urban Farm at Lafayette in Morristown.
Why Go: Because you can stop by the farm with the kids and participate in some farm chores, or just sit back, relax and enjoy your weekend.
Pricing: Free.  

1800s Fashion Show at Fosterfields
Where/When: At 1 p.m. on Sunday at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, in Morris Township.
Why Go: Because you can spend your Sunday learning about life as a child in the 1800s during this family-friendly fashion show.
Pricing: $6 adults; $5 seniors; $4 children.

Morristown Farmers Market
Where/When: From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday at Spring and Morris streets, in parking lot behind Dunkin' Donuts in Morristown.
Why Go: Because you can pick up fresh produce and fruits (including organic), flowers, herbs, eggs, cheese, baked goods, pickled products, honey, fish, poultry, pork, and grass-fed beef. Also, it's "Second Sunday," which means there will be even more fun this week.
Pricing: Bring your wallet.

Summer Concert Series: New Riders of the Purple Sage
When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Sunday at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To experience the country rock sound of a group that, in its original lineup, included several member of the Grateful Dead.
Pricing: Free.

Grape Expectations Open House
When/Where: From noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Grape Expectations in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To take a tour of the place where favorite wines from select California and South American grapes are produced. Raise your glass to the fun of winemaking.
Pricing: Free.

Kids in Kitchen- Red, White, and Blue
When/Where: From 10 to 11 a.m or noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday at Wegmans in Bridgewater.
Why Go: A cooking coach will instruct children on how to have fun in the kitchen while creating a special menu of tomato and basil bruschetta and a berry flower dessert. 
Pricing: $5 per child and parent with Shopper Plus Card, or $10 without a card. Registration required.
