Hopatcong Baseball Nabs Share of League Title
With Thursday's win over Newton, the Chiefs have chance to win NJAC Freedom crown outright for first league title since 1998.
They are the champions.
Hopatcong High School's baseball team clinched a share its first league championship since 1998 Thursday, dropping Newton, 4-0, at the Homer Dome for a Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference Freedom Division crown.
The Chiefs (12-7) would take the crown outright with a win over Kittatinny Wednesday.
Adam McLagan scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, legging out the back end of a double-steal. Frank Fendrock's two-run double in the seventh helped open things up for Hopatcong, which received scoreless pitching from senior Dillon DelRosso and sophomore Ryan Frace (3-2).
Senior first baseman Ray Annett went 3-for-4 and Rick Prestifilippo knocked a two-bagger.
