It's official: Hopatcong is getting into the Christmas spirit.
Look down Hopatchung Road, see all the wreaths and lights. Hear it in the conversations around the borough. See it the front yards of Hopatcong homes—bright lights, Santa Claus statues, even more bright lights.
Here's a look at some upcoming Christmas-themed events happening in the borough.
Christmas Tree Lighting
Hopatcong will light its Christmas tree at the municipal building at 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, along with a special appearance by Santa. Click here for photos from last year's lighting.
Winter Wonderland Shopping
St. Jude's Parish will host a crafts show Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free raffle tickets for door prizes. There will also be food to purchase. On the crafts side, there will be handmade items and gifts. Call Francesca at (973) 895-5637 for more.
Military Veterans Benefit
The Armed Forces Relief Committee will host a military benefit at Pavinci's on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. "Proceeds will assist our returning wounded servicemen and women and their families who have defended our freedom and the American way of life," the committee said, according to Hopatcong's website. Tickets cost $28 for a full buffet dinner, wine-tasting an live entertainment. Click on the flyer on the right for more.

Pet-Peeve: Please replace the X and put Christ back in Christmas. It's not like there isn't room for it in the headline. Thanks.

Genesko, we used the "X" out of headline habit. We're not going to change it now. But we put Christmas in the story's first sentence. So we're not opposed to putting it into a headline.

BTW, the cool thing about the way our town tree is lighted with the inside and the outside -- as you drive by it looks like it is gently spinning.

I agree with genesko, it’s a cool tree. Was at the lighting last year and it was great. Not Rock Center but just as good. The kind of small town thing that kind of brings everyone together. I’ll take Hopatcong over Rock Center anyday.

PUT THE OTHER TOWN CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS UP on the other street light poles. They are fairly new and looked great as you entered town on Lakeside! Or did we throw them out because we now have expensive lights with wreaths in just that 100 yard stretch of "town?"

Will they ever fix the broken streetlight by the gas station? I mean how hard is it to replace 1 light?
