Kids, grab your skateboards.
After more than a month of its gates being locked, the Hopatcong skate park was opened Friday morning. Repairs to the ramps have been completed after several material shipping delays.
"We took the locks off the gates and everything, the kids can go enjoy it now," Recreation Coordinator Sue Paricuck said.
Just don't forget your helmets before riding in the park. Hopatcong's bike patrol was recently implemented and the police department will be actively monitoring Brant Park.

Cool! When I'm at the community garden, you can see the kids on skateboards & bikes. Some of them are pretty good.

You know, skate boarders seem to be getting a bad rap because of a few and because they can do some damage to property with their tricks, but if you watch these kids some of them really show great skill. So, there may not be a future in professional skate boarding, but when we were kids skates (Roller skates) were a big deal and none of us went on to fame and fortune in that field. I’d rather see the kids burn up all that energy in the skate park than who knows where. Hope they don’t break anything this time.

Actually, if you get the right sponsor, there is a future in professional skateboarding. I dated a guy after high school who was sponsored by some local shops. I guy I went to high school with who I guess you can say is a semi pro still to this day. He has appeared in Thrasher magazine numerous times.
I graduated high school 20 years ago and still support the "skateboarding is not a crime" cause.

Go take a look at that skatepark today. The amount of litter is absolutely disgusting. It's an embarrasment. Two empty garbage cans there, and enough empty bottles on the ground to fill them both.
Please- if your kids use the park, talk to them about littering. It's just so disrespectful to themsevles that they would want to trash a place set up to their own hang out.
