Hopatcong, Stanhope Officials Meet as Thousands Continue Without Power
Town officials work together to share resources, information for how to help residents during Sandy aftermath.
Hopatcong officials say they are working with Stanhope officials to figure out how to best help the thousands of residents who are still left without power four days after Tropical Storm Sandy tore through the northeast.
Borough councilman Michael Francis said both municipalities will meet Friday afternoon to discuss how to share resources, OEM personnel, and information for how to help the residents struggling from Sandy aftermath.
"We're doing everything we possibly can to get through this," he said.
He said one of the things officials are discussing is how to get more supplies for residents at the shelter at Hopatcong High School.
Francis said officials are in constant contact with JCP&L, as the power company continues to work around the borough.
Francis said the power company has primarily been working at the substations in Hopatcong, because that's where the large distribution areas are. He said there are six substations throughout the borough.
As of Friday afternoon, Francis said JCP&L workers are still working on removing the numerous trees and wires, and getting the poles replaced. Francis said the company is "making great progress" and will be able to supply power once they get everything cleared and the substations up and running.

Possible to find out who monitors the jcpl website that states outages? since its saying that 13% of hopatcong has power which is not the case as the police say its still 100% of people without power, i keep checking that site and getting my hopes up that my power will be back on soon and thats not the case since its still clean up phase.
do appreciate all the hard work around the town, just miss my power and heat.

Why in the world are they just talking now. Shouldn't this have happened before the storm happened? There was plenty of notice before the storm.

Are "thousands" of Hopatcong residents without power? Or is "all" of Hopatcong without power? Does anyone in town or any business have power yet? Let's call it like it is folks. The whole town is out....still.

What does "making real progress" mean in terms of number of homes lit up today? So far it looks like almost zero progress?

All of hopatcong is without power. There are a tremendous amount of poles down that need to be replaced as well as transformers. There are also hundreds of trees. Out of all of sussex county we were hit the hardest. What I don't understand is why aren't we on the news. Maybe if we were our goverment officials like our govenor or senator would step in and apply pressure. There just isn't enough jcpl crews out there. But I will say our dpw is the best around. They worked around the clock the first two days. They have been taking care of things the county should have. I applaud them. I also want to give thanks to cert who is running the shelter and making life bearably for hundreds of people. The fireman have also have been doing above and beyond. They all stepped up and didn't fail us. Thank god for them because our federal goverment did. This is katrina all over again.
