That could have ended so much worse for all involved. I just don't get what goes on in a person's mind.

Just proves police work is a dangerous, and stressful job. They never know what they will be walking into. In this case thank God no one was hurt and kudos to the officers for their quick thinking, restraint, team work, and for protecting the resident(s).

Congratulations Officer Sutphen on a job well done. Could have made the front page in a way that no one wants but your judgment and quick action averted a major incident and, boy, would the anti-cop people be all over this one. From the story it sounds like this guy is one we could do without in our town. Let’s see how long it takes the courts to set him back on the streets of Hopatcong. We can be proud of our cops and confident in their abilities.

The guy will get his "due process" but there is nothing unusual about getting arrested for violating a restraining order, possession of drugs/paraphernalia, threatening an officer with a gun, etc. Congratulations Officer Sutphen on a job well done. This guy was from Elba Point section - most of the scum resides up in the transient rentals in the "Hills".

The Hills are transient? Yeah lets see anyone who lives here try to get out. You can't no matter how much you try. Doesn't sound very transient to me. lets brake it down.....1 aggravated assualt = May or may have not pointed a gun in the general direction of the officers on scene,2 prossesion of a weapon for unlawful purposes = unregistered weapon, in the state of NJ that sounds like the norm,3 resisting arrest = he may have or may have not tighted up while attempting to securing the subject,4 processing of prohibited weapons and devices = omg its the end of the world hollow point bullets,5 hindering and obstruction = attempted to hind his smoking pipe under his pillow,6 processing of a control dangerous substance = little bag of weed man,and finally 7 prossessing of drug paraphernalia = that Gdam pipe that started the whole thing!

Does anyone have a good recipe for banana bread?

SUPER - This is what I use - ain't bad. Sometimes I had chopped walnuts to give it more of a kick.

INGREDIENTS
3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
METHOD
No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve

So the cops came to serve him a restraining order. Ok. Why the search warrant? What are the other details that are not reported here. Unless in this state when you are served a restraining order your not allowed to have guns, so the cops look you up and see if you have any registered weapons, then get a search warrant to search for them, then enter your house unannounced, and ask you where the weapons are so you go to your night stand and get it and hand it to the cop and he knocks it out of your hand and tackles you, it hurts alot because you are 60 years old and can't bend like you used to, so the cop decides to call that resisting arrest, because you can't bend your arm behind your back, it just won't go, and you are still wondering why the hell they are there anyway.

When I used the word "transient" in regard to the Hills, I was referring to the many run down shacks owned by slumlords that refuse to maintain and keep them in good repair and rent them out to the first unstable moron that can come up with security and a months rent - the turnover rate is high and these dumps just continually recycle. There are plenty of well kept homes in the Hills, with their owners residing in them - I meant no reference to them, I would bet they know the neighboring dumps I am referring to and its unfortunate for them that they have to put up with it.

If the pd had informed him if the process and explained what was going to happen, this could have been handled better. PD entering your home is offensive and needs to be handled as such. Why was the man walking around without supervision???? Big mistake. Don't be such a glory hound looking to save the day by instigating a problem. It was a warrent and all weapons would be taken until the matter was resolved and the pipe if not listen on the warrent had no bearing as it is not what they have been sent to obtain. Handled properly the man should have been asked to sit observed while police inspected each area of the home for weapons including any loaded firearms which is not illegal and makes good spence for a man to protect his home. His action that brought the restraining order and search as well as his desicion to grab a gun where poor choices but lets not pretend there was nothing to learn from the situation.

Where did all these "jail house" lawyers come from? From personal experience, it seems.
