Thousands Without Power in Hopatcong, Sparta

JCP&L reports thousands of customers throughout Hopatcong and Sparta experiencing power outages Monday night.

As of 7:45 p.m., 6,691 customers in Sparta Township and 3,800 residences in Hopatcong are without power Monday night, according to JCP&L power maps.

JCP&L said the company is experiencing widespread outages from severe weather impacts from Hurricane Sandy, and "crews are assessing the situation and will begin service restoration work as soon as it's safe to do so."

The power company urges customers to report outages by either using the report an outage link on its website or calling 1-888-544-4877.

JCP&L reminds residents to treat all downed wires as live and dangerous, and to immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the local police or fire department.

Patch will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Ah! JCP&L is no doubt hard at work restoring power. Now if you believe that I have a 50 foot section of the Atlantic City boardwalk for sale.

Hey it may or may not be true but nonetheless it's designed to keep customers happy. I lost power on Oklahoma Trail in Hopatcong around 7:10PM am I happy? No but I am more concerned with any of my 4 trees coming down and taking out my neighbors house or mine to care about the power I have no lights and no water just like Irene as long as the trees hold I will be grateful. I may stink for a few days but I have bottled water to wash up in and working toilets at work. Do I believe JCP&L? Probably not I heard the same story after Floyd and Irene the names change but the song remains the same. God please keep my trees standing and let them do no harm and I for that I am grateful Amen.

The JCPL outage page says that 100% of Hopatcong is out. Sparta is only 97% dead. Lucky Sparta.
