Report: Lake Hopatcong Girl a Top Drag Racer
Alexandra Guido, 18, tells NJ.com she's been enamored with the sport since she was a kid.
Plenty of Lake Hopatcong teens love sports. Alexandra Guido's passion is a bit different than the rest.
NJ.com reports Guido is among the state's top female drag racers—and she's just 18 years ago. Guido, who went to Pope John, has accumulated truckloads of trophies and a $5,000 savings bond after racing for almost 10 years, according to the report.
"You have to think so much when you’re in the car that 8 seconds feels like a minute," Guido told NJ.com. "But when you get to the end, it’s almost like the minute catches up in a flash."
Guido first sat in a dragster at 11 years old, according to website for Russ Guido Motorsports. The sport has run in the family, as her father, Russ, and three siblings have each spent time behind the wheel over the last 20 years, according to Russ Guido Motorsports.
Guido told NJ.com it's the excitement that drives her to the race track.
"You just don’t know what is going to happen at the end of the run — safety-wise, whether you will win or lose," she said, according to the report. "This is a sport that gives you the craziest adrenaline rush."
