Robbery Indictment Returned in Quick Chek Incident
Hopatcong men allegedly stole $289 cash from a store employee, hit gas attendant with car.
Two Hopatcong men were indicted on second-degree robbery and two counts of theft charges, according to a report released Tuesday by the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office.
Brian Howell and Steven McCabe, both 25, are scheduled to be arraigned within the next few weeks.
The indictment stems from charges that the men allegedly struck a gas station attendant with their car in April after robbing a Quick Chek store in Hopatcong. Hopatcong police said McCabe approached a gas attendant from behind and took $289 cash from his hands. McCabe returned to the car, police said, and Howell, the driver, then allegedly struck another Quick Chek employee, Mike Smith, who had attempted to help the attendant. Smith, of Hopatcong, was taken to St. Clare's hospital with head injuries and later released.
Paterson police stopped the car they were driving in after seeing a smashed windshield. Police said the men were also found with 40 empty bags used to contain heroin and a hypodermic needle.
The drug charges were not reflected in the indictment, but McCabe and Howell were additionally each indicted in November on charges of fourth-degree aggravated assault.
Assistant Prosecutor Seana Pappas presented the case to a grand jury.

H-Town would certainly benefit if those two losers were locked up and unable to produce spawn.

Speaking of them having kids, it made me realize how truly sad all of this is. Without going into details, I have heard that one of them had it tough growing up and basically had to raise himself from a very young age. So you would think having a child would make someone straighten themselves out to become the father they never had to this innocent baby. Every child should be given a fighting chance in life, because unfortunately we can see what happens when they aren't given one.

Just so you know, his child is in good hands (not with him) but is with a perfectly capable of parenting family member, so before you start thinking and saying that his child is doomed or whatever you would like to call it, get your facts straight, thanks :)

I can also say that the baby is in great loving hands. In knowing with whom the child lives; I can say without a doubt that I only wish I got as much love as a child that the baby has. I wish for them both all the beautiful things life has to offer.

its funny how you people come on here just to bash other people. you dont know them nor the lives they had growing up. maybe these people didnt have the comfort and love a home should have. the comfort and love a parent should give their child. people have it tough growing up and dont have the oppurtunities that everyone else has so they choose a last resort. some people just dont know anymore because how could they ?! they were never taught right growing up. In all reality you people coming on here trashing others makes you worse then they are.

You can attempt to justify their actions all you want.......... But they're 25 years old and regardless of how tough they had it growing up they had every opportunity to NOT be heroin junkies, steal from a gas station, and run somebody over. Those aren't things someone has to be taught not to do...Your defense of them is a joke.

Everyone has a sob story about growing up. It's what you do with your life that makes us different from animals. Just because we came from a crappy home doesnt mean you need to too. We all make our own choices in life and most of us are not life long criminals. My parents divorced when I was young, my father died before I was a teenager but I didn't let that keep me down. It's time these people grow up and take accountability for their own actions.
These 2 could have killed or permanately injured the Quick Chek employee over $200...really. Go out and get a job even at $8/hr is better than stealing and injuring innocent people.

This is not their first violent crime. Howell was arrested and convicted of stricking another person in the head with a steel pipe which caused the victim permanent brain injury.

Howell is a great person, but yes drugs did get him making wrong decisions. They are both paying for what they did. You guys don't even know the full story about that day or even how it went down. Maybe if you guys talked to them you would know. As far as knowing about kids, that is wrong. You don't bring kids in the situation because of what their parent has done. Kids cant help what the parents do they are innocent in the situation.

You people never cease to amaze me ! They are grown adults who make their own adult choices ! Their childhood had no play into what they do 20 years later. Everyone plays a small violin for this terrible child hood and you don't know a damn thing. How dare you bring a child into this converstion that you know nothing about. You all need to find a life. The kid he hit with a pipe showed up to his house with a friend to attack him he threw a pipe out of his truck and ran in the woods because he was trying to avoid getting jumped why don't you try obtaining court documents before you take bits and pieces of information from your weekly gossip sessions !

im sorry but i have to say, when you become an adult, no matter how much your life was bad or good, you know right from wrong. Its your choice to do right or wrong. they chose as adults to do wrong, i have no sympathy for these kids..

Criminal behavior, and in this case, violent criminal behavior with intent to cause another person bodily harm, can not be excused regardless of ones upbringing or family back ground. One chooses to be a drug user or seller; one chooses to cause harm to another.......let them pay the consequences without the cry baby stuff. Personal responsibility is a very simple concept, but it totally alludes some morons. This is what prisons are for.......and we, the law abiding citizens, foot the bill to house and feed these criminals.
