Drug-Dealing Student Had Pot, Knife at School, Cops Say
Sparta High School senior allegedly had $4,450, drugs and a 13-inch knife on school property.
An 18-year-old Sparta High School student was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling drugs and having a knife on school property, police said.
School officials searched a car driven by senior Eric Roberts when he arrived at the school at about 11 a.m. Thursday. He was found to have a 13-inch butterfly knife, $4,450 in cash and marijuana divided in separate Ziploc bags, allegedly for distribution, according to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe.
Roberts was charged with distribution of narcotics on school property, possession of marijuana, possession of a weapon on school property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was released on his own recognizance later that day and is scheduled to appear in municipal court on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Why is he released when this happened on School Property? I just don't get the justice system and I thought that a Drug Free School Zone penalties are tougher? It's simply mind blowing that this guy is able to just get charged, sign a paper and walk out of the police station... See you in court next month! WTH?

I could not agree more Mom of Two.... I feel he should have gotten a free ride to Sussex County Jail. Clearly the system is broken... On school grounds no less... And if I had to guess he'll get a Public Defender that you and I will pay for... Infuriating!

We'll pay for his lawyer and he's probably back in school. We know every kid deserves an education even if at the expense of the majority! I continue to pay for private education.
