Teachers Seek Volunteers, More Donations For High School Shelter

Hopatcong teachers have been working together to help the resdients in need during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy by donating supplies at the high school shelter.

Hundreds have been in and out of Hopatcong High School through the week, and third grade teacher Danielle Kovach said the shelter currently needs more items such as ground coffee, milk, sugar packets and splenda, hot cups, hot chocolate, water, invidudually wrapped kid snacks, games, art supplies, and feminine hygiene supplies.

The teachers are also looking for volunteers to come to the high school shelter to work with the children and parents living there. Kovach said teachers are looking for any dance, yoga, martial arts, Zumba, or any other type of instructor who would like to help out.

While kids throughout the state didn't get to experience Halloween on Wednesday due to the devastating impacts of Sandy, teachers are setting up a special party at the high school on Sunday.

Kovach said that the teachers are holding a Halloween party starting at noon for kids 12 and under. She said supplies will be given so kids can make costumes, and candy will be given to parents so kids will be able to trick-or-treat.

Kovach said teachers are collecting donations for craft supplies and candy.
