You Need to Know the AA Mission Statement: According to the organization's website: "Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions."
You Need to Know Another St. Jude's Service: The church also hosts a men's sharing group the first Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m.

Not really sure what you're getting at. If you're wondering why we posted it, we believe it's good for borough residents to know these services are being offered in Hopatcong.

I agree with you Brendan. How will anyone know where there are meetingsif they need help. People who go deserve their privcy but I don't think announcing where meetings are available counts as violating anonymity.

I think they are referring to the promotion aspect of the tradition. I agree it is good to let people know, but one of the tenants of AA is not to advertise in media regardless of its benefit. It's just how the program works.

I'm moving to Hopatcong from Ohio, 21 years sober. If the meeting times and places are kept as some big secret, how am I, and others, supposed to find them? Posting the "where and when" does not violate any tradition, nor does it "promote" our program. . There are many local newspapers all over the United States that publish the where and when of open meetings. It's a group conscience decision whether the meeting is published in the paper or on the Internet or not at all. The Internet has been a Godsend for me as I travel and need to find meetings. And thanks for letting me know about these 2 meetings in my soon-to-be home town. Keep on trudging.
