Woman Drove Car into Lake Hopatcong, Cops Say
She wasn't hurt and was alone in the vehicle.
A woman wasn't hurt when she drove her car into Lake Hopatcong after hitting a guard rail late Thursday night, police said.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was driving alone on Hopatcong Street when she drove into the lake around 11:40 p.m., Hopatcong Fire Chief Wade Crowley said.
The woman was still in the car when first responders arrived, Crowley said. She was able to breathe while pressed against the driver's side window, according to Crowley.
Two members of the Hopatcong Fire Department rescued the woman, who was then transported to the hospital, Crowley said.
All three of Hopatcong fire companies, the Hopatcong Police Department, Hopatcong Ambulance Squad, and Jefferson Police Department responded to the scene.
Tow trucks arrived to pull the car from the water at 1 a.m.

What a heroic story about the 2 from the Hopatcong Fire department that rescued this woman. I hope there is a follow up article on this rescue effort with details and names of these local heroes.

so what your saying is,.. they made a actual rescue and the firemen just didnt show up and give her warm clothes and coffee....baaahhh...now your starting to sound like them down in town

So what were you doing at 11:40 that Thursday night Jazzman? Were you getting out of your warm bed, getting dressed, getting in your cold car, rushing to the firehouse, pulling on your gear, climbing on the truck, getting to the scene and making the decision that you would be the one to jump into a freezing cold lake with little regard for your safety? Did you get back home a few hours later, take a hot shower and still get up the next morning and drag your tired, chilled *ss to work for 8 or more hours? Those men get to tell their children they saved a life that night. You get to tell your children you TRIED to belittle those that save lives.

well, she didn't just drive off the road and into the lake! she had to make a turn off the road and drive through the parking lot of the kabobs/glasser post office before you get to that spot on the lake.

After seeing the damage that was done the guard rail was hit pretty hard. When Lake Tavern closed up they must have shut off the parking lot lights because I haven't noticed them on. So it would have been totally dark.

She planned to do this. What a shame that she put all those people that came to her aid in danger. They had drivers, there were alot of poeple that came out. And she was was not hurt. But the sad part is that we the people of Hopatcong will end up paying this bill.

But even if the parking lot was totally dark the cars head lights should have lit it enough to see that the guard rails and the lake. Right?

Why bicker? Does it really matter? Are your lives that boring, that you read an article, then troubleshoot the incident? Yet, you all fail to see the main point, somebody drove into the lake, survived and the fire department did a good job. Environmental clean up? Really? Lets see do they filter the water of that lake every time a boat spills fuel, blows and out drive or an engine and in turn spills hydronic fluid in the lake?? Sure great Monday morning quarterbacks. Get a grip on reality, and spew your envy while you sing in the shower with your hopes of being the next top correspondent.

@Ed, point is that if this was ANY ONE of us, our names and details of the accident would have been published in an instant for allthe to see. What makes this person so special? That is the magic question, and inquiring minds want to know. They are apparently very well connected to keep their name out of the press, which tells us that either they are a public figure or they know someone who is that does not want this publicized. Take your pick, but I am guessing that it's something to do with our administration.
