Clay you are also correct too. There is a group of people that take no pride and have no sense ofRead Moreo wnership. I think that is the key, having a sense of ownership and responsibility. We are drifting into a mindless society where no one can think on their own if there isn't an app on their mobile phone for it. Although, I find the people of Hopatcong for the most part our far more caring of their neighbors. I think the 14 day blackout of storm Sandy showed this. The garbage issue comes down to poor management of our borough's officials not enforcing any rules. There are some people that have to be threatened with a fine in order for them to take action. Our elected officials have loftier political party aspirations than they do visions on how to improve Hopatcong for the people who live here. But this is true of all politicians today all the way up to the president. No one wants to take out the garbage.

People need to band together and take action instead of just talking about it on the Patch. ThingsRead Moren eed to change. And they are just going further downhill the longer people put up with high property taxes to live in a rundown town.

There used to be a joke about being able to see all the blue tarps in Hopatcong from space usingRead MoreGoo gle Earth! At least a couple of years ago, as ugly as the blue tarp epidemic was, it covered the trash. Now nobody cares and the garbage, junk cars and boats, and old appliances litter the town!

I liked Beach Bum's Comment! Why was it deleted. Anyway, I think that some of the best places toRead Moresho ot around the lake are as follows: Over the Riverstyxx Bridge, By Alice's and the Windlass, at the State Park and over in Mt. Arlington Area.
BeachBum July 06, 2014 at 03:37 PM
Not sure where my post went? Anyway, why the River Styx Bridge area, that is the dead zone thatRead MoreHopa tcong killed and never looked back, would look like a ghost town from the air, and abandoned - There are plenty of good spots, none in Hopatcong though - Jefferson area, Mt Arlington, Sparta is another choice, Lake Mohawk

Now of all those loses, how many were even somewhat newly built single family homes? Given howRead Morepacke d this state is anyway the added cost for such a system will certainly keep construction of new homes down. Feel good legistration that will have next to no impact except on wallets. So if I wanted to put up a new bungalow in my blight-ridden town on a tiny piece of property or I bulldozed an existing condemned bungalow to make a new one I'd have to install a sprinkler system with it. just keep the condemned property condemned and move on. Way to go snobby legislators.

Thanks for bringing these interesting facts about the hidden big investors patiently waiting andRead Moreswo oping in on plum land deals. Why pay the same tax ratables like everyone else on the most gorgeous land in NJ to use for private non agro for profit businesses. And let's not forget the helpful adjusted devaluation price that adds even more landholdings in Hopatcong of undeveloped real estate into those global capital real estate portfolios. It is a generous offer of state and county farm preservation incentives. NJ Tax incentives that were meant for the small farmer or small private landholder now being gamed by the extreme wealthy and their global investment shareholders. Hidden in the tax map somewhere under some undisclosed municipality under some unrecognizable name so that no one will ever catch on to what is really happening.
