Welp, I took advantage of the discounted tickets and definitely the free Tuesday night movies during the summer months. I really can't see paying full price for a movie now especially since I haven't seen a good movie since Forest Gump. Time to do some shopping.   more ›

JCP&L Rate Hike Request Earns Criticism, Some Praise

Final hearing on a 4.1 percent increase for state's second largest utility.

The sixth and final hearing on a request for a rate increase by the state’s second largest utility company met with a mix of praise and criticism for Jersey Central Power & Light Wednesday at Freehold Township’s Town Hall. JCP&L, fresh off widespread criticism for its handling of superstorm Sandy and the nor’easter that followed, is seeking a 4.1 percent increase in the rates it charges its 1.1 million customers – many of whom were without power for up to two weeks after this winter’s storms. The Morristown-based company is seeking to recoup the $630 million it spent on repairs following Sandy. It has petitioned the state regulatory board — the Board of Public Utilities — which has held hearings throughout JCP&L’s coverage area since the …

JCP&L's infrastructure is obsolete! As defined in wikipedia - "infrastructure is technical structures that support a society - electrical grids, …   more ›

Would an Online Sales Tax Help Hopatcong-Sparta?

Online sales tax could arrive as part of the 2014 federal budget.

The U.S. Senate on Monday moved forward on a bill that would allow for the collection of sales taxes on items bought online, pushing forward legislation that is is designed to level the playing field for online and offline businesses — but it might create challenges for small merchants who sell across the state lines. According to a Huffington Post report, the bill -- known as the Marketplace Fairness Act -- would enable businesses to collect sales tax on online purchases and send them to the state where the buyer resides. A 1992 Supreme Court decision allows for the tax on online sales, but only if the purchaser voluntarily sends the tax to his or her state tax agency. The issue is a top priority for cash-strapped state and local …

Memorial Day relaunch targeted for the fire decimated is business fast approaching.

It seems like the news of popular eatery Pub 199 burning to the ground happened yesterday. But despite the three-alarm electrical fire that in Jan. a.m. collapsed the roof and the floors, owner George Markou said he planned to be open for business by Memorial Day.  Pub 199 was known far and wide for its surf and turf, and for its extensive collection of stuffed game animals and animal heads that created the pub’s unique dining experience. We want to know if you plan on checking out the reborn Pub 199 when they start selling clams and lobsters again.
