Hopatcong Homecoming Weekend, Sparta Library Bookmark Event

Your daily planner for Hopatcong and Sparta includes a reminder about the weekend's Hopatcong Halloween parade and Friday's sanitation schedules.

Here's what you need to know for Friday.

  • It's Homecoming Weekend in Hopatcong! The milestone event features Hopatcong High School's Chiefs squaring off against Kinnelon in football at home Friday at 7 p.m. And on Saturday is the annual Homecoming Dance—we mention it on Friday so parents and guardians can deal with the last-minute preparations some of our teens leave until the last minute. The event is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. and will be held in the high school cafeteria. The schools address is 2A Windsor Ave. Kids, these are the good old days you'll remember when you're old like us—be safe and smart and enjoy.
  • Looking for something to do with the wee ones this Friday? The Sparta Public Library presents "Bookmark a Story." The event, designed for youngsters 12 months and old, features the reading of a delightful short story perfect for the littlest of children followed by an arts and crafts session where the kids can create (or help to make) their very own bookmark. The free event takes place at 11 a.m. The library can be found at 2 Woodport Road in Sparta.
  • A reminder for Hopatcong parents: The borough's annual Halloween Costume Parade takes place Sunday at noon at Hudson Maxim School. Should it rain, the event will be rescheduled to the following Sunday. Oct. 27. The school is located at 452 Lakeside Blvd. in Lake Hopatcong. For more information, click here.
  • Keeping It Clean: In Hopatcong, sanitation crews will follow Garbage Pickup Schedule D. The borough's recycling center will be open Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.. In Sparta, check with the online schedule.
