HMS Back to School Night, Sparta Environmental Commission Meets

What you need to know for Thursday in Hopatcong and Sparta.

A couple of things to know in Hopatcong for Thursday:

It's Back to School Night at Hopatcong Middle School. Parents are invited to visit the school, meet their kids' teachers and find out what their young scholars will study and what expectations teachers have. The HMS Parent-Teacher Organization also kicks off its fall fundraiser at the event. The school is located on David Road and the night starts at 7 p.m.

Sparta residents interested in the environmental health and welfare of the township are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Sparta Environmental Commission. The body gathers Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Sparta Town Hall, 65 Main St.

Deer hunting season is almost here. This week, licenses for bow hunters went on sale for the early fall bow season, which starts Sept. 14, and the regular deer season, which begins Sept. 28 and ends Oct. 25.

The Hopatcong Borough website says deer bow hunters who are interested in hunting in the Natural Preserve during the season can apply for a license at the
Borough Hall Clerk's office. Applications are available there or can be downloaded from the website.

For information on the fall bow season and the Sept. 21 youth bow deer hunt, visit the site for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife.
