Star Wars Crafting at Louise Childs, Sparta Senior Surrey

Your daily planner for Hopatcong and Sparta includes sign-up info for the Hopatcong emergency alert system and sanitation pickup info.

Here's what you need to know for Thursday.

  • When it comes to giving your kids creative fun, parents, take Obi Wan Kenobi's advice: Trust in the force. The Louise Childs Branch of the Sussex County Library System presents Star Wars Craft. The offering, for youth in grades four through eight, is an hour-long opportunity for young padawans, er, students to build their own "Star Wars"-themed glass magnet, a cool trinket even a Wookiee would love. The craft session starts at 4 p.m. Registration is not necessary. The library is at 21 Sparta Road in Stanhope.
  • If you're a senior in Sparta, we hope you know that cold can make you especially vulnerable. If you need help getting transportation during these chilly days to do your errands, the Sparta Senior Surrey can provide that assistance. Here is the schedule. If you need a ride, you must make an appointment by calling 973-729-8542 between 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and  at least 24 hours in advance of your intended travel.
  • As we've seen recently, emergency situations such as polar vectors can crop up at any time. The Borough Of Hopatcong offers Hopatcong Alert, an emergency communication system that sends general and emergency communications to residents when needed. Stay in the know when you need to know and sign up for the service here.
  • Keeping It Clean: In Hopatcong, sanitation crews will head to Garbage Pickup Section C. No recycling pickup is on the schedule, but the Recycling Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.   In Sparta, check with the online schedule.
