Teachers' Convention Continues, Sparta Recreation Survey

Your daily planner for Hopatcong and Sparta includes a call for donations—and good advice—from the Hopatcong Animal Pound.

Here's what you need to know for Friday.

  • The New Jersey Education Association Teachers' Convention continues Friday, which means public schools will remain closed.
  • Sparta Recreation needs you! The township is asking residents to visit the Sparta municipal website and take an online survey that will allow the Recreation Department to assess what services are most needed and wanted.
  • The Hopatcong Pound is still looking for donations of cleaning supplies (bleach especially), blankets, dog food, cat food, kitty litter and newspapers. Please drop off at the pound, located on the corner of Flora and Durban Avenues between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The pound also reminds pet owners that the temperatures are dropping; you are urged to bring your animals inside to keep them warm and safe.
  • Looking ahead to Monday, Hopatcong Borough and Sparta Township offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
  • Keeping It Clean: In Hopatcong, sanitation crews will follow Garbage Pickup Schedule D and Recycling Schedule A. The Recycling Center will be open Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. In Sparta, check with the online schedule.
