This event will be sponsored by The History Press, of Charleston, South Carolina, who have published many of the books on display and available for purchase.

Participating authors include Dr. Jude Phister, the overseer of museum, archival and library programs at Washington’s Headquarters Museum, wrote The Jacob Ford Jr. Mansion, for which he was awarded the Eastern National Board of Directors Author’s Award.

SCHS Trustee Wayne McCabe, Sussex County Historian, will be offering two new books in the A Penny a View series: (1) An Album of Postcard Views of Andover Borough, and (2) Hamlets and Villages of Sussex County – Swartswood. Published by Historic Preservation Alternatives of Newton, these books are illustrated with many photographic postcards from McCabe’s vast collection. Swartswood is depicted from 1906 to the late 1930’s, with a brief historic overview of the once thriving village.

Did you know that 80% of today’s New Jersey residents can trace their roots to German origins? In his latest book, Germans in New Jersey: a History, SCHS Trustee and college professor Peter Lubrecht explores the reasons for - and consequences of - the German immigration to New Jersey.

Local author and SCHS member Valerie M. Josephson is a retired medical editor. She offers her newest book, Stirring Times: The Lives of New Jersey’s First Civil War Surgeons, focusing on nine doctors who volunteered for the New Jersey militia at the beginning of the war.

Author Kevin Wright is a tenth generation Sussex County resident. He has served in many capacities as a volunteer and historic preservation advocate, including as President of both the Sussex County and Bergen County Historical Societies.

Other local authors will include Linda Barth, Tom Austin, and Michael Gabriel.

For the history buffs in your family or circle of friends, the books offered for sale at this event would make perfect holiday gifts. We will be selling many discards from our library as well as reproductions of vintage Christmas cards.
