When Joey was born the doctors detected a heart murmur.  After many tests, it was discovered that he was born with 3 holes in his heart.  The holes eat up 75% of his calorie intake.  The most concerning hole is the one between his upper 2 chambers because it has blood shunting through it.  In addition, he was delayed in meeting his developmental milestones.  At 1 ½ years old he was not making eye contact, pointing, or talking.  At the age of 2 he was diagnosed with autism from a developmental pediatrician.  His parents, Diane and Dennis have him involved in many activities such as the Special Olympics and socialization groups.  In addition to his medical problems and developmental delays, his family is struggling financially due to job loss. Without a steady source of income, the family is unable to pay for necessary daily living expenses such as mortgage payments, food, and clothing in addition to paying for Joey’s medical and educational needs.
