HOPATCONG — Only minutes after it started, the Hopatcong Borough Council meeting was over.

Monday afternoon’s special meeting started at 4 p.m. in Borough Hall.

It had been advertised in the New Jersey Herald and posted on the bulletin board maintained in the Municipal Building.

The board approved the payment of 72 checks for a total of $179,279.15. Councilman Richard Bunce and Council-woman Estelle Klein were both absent from the meeting.

By JOE CARLSON  A late amendment to the agenda allowed the board to vote 4-0 and pass a resolution to show its support for the 2013 state-wide drunken driving crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled over.”  The meeting ended at 4:07 p.m., seven minutes after it started.  The campaign, which started in 1999, aimed at combating drunken driving during some of the most saturated travel times of the year, started Friday and will run through Labor Day weekend.
