Boys Scouts Honor Sussex Women Role Models

Five women will be recognized on May 9 at The Lake Mohawk Golf Club.

The Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council, will honor local women at the Sussex County Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon.

Dawn Gomez, Catherine Kut, Megan MacMullin, Shirley Nicholson and Jill Space will be honored on Friday, May 9 at The Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Sparta for serving as exemplary role models for the youth of the area. 

"These recipients are chosen for their services as evidenced by the interest and leadership they have demonstrated within Sussex County," according to a statement announcing the event. "They are citizens who live the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives."

Gomez is the owner of Garden of Life Massage and Yoga Center in Wantage and serves on the Board of Sussex County Chamber of Commerce.

Kut is sales manager and realtor associate at Realty Executive Exceptional Realtors in Sparta and serves on the board of the Sussex County United Way.

MacMullin is a court-appointed counsel for individuals needing a guardian and acts as a court-appointed Guardian for those who do not have anyone to serve on their behalf. She serves on the board of trustees for SCARC, Inc. and the SCARC Foundation.

Nicholson, of Eastern Propane Corp., has lived in Sussex County for more than 50 years, volunteering in many ways to give back to the community. She is active and a 50-year member of the Sparta Woman’s Club. She served as president to the 300 active members in 1969-1970.

Space helps her husband, Parker, run the family business, Space Farms Zoo and Museum and recently opened Extreme Pizza franchise at Space Farms. She is also active in the Sussex County GOP serving as first vice chairwoman of the Sussex County GOP and as an elected member of the County Committee.

Through the Sussex County Tribute to Women Awards Luncheon, funds will be raised to support the award-winning child abuse prevention programs offered to the community at large by the Boy Scouts of America.

The Patriots’ Path Council ranks high among all the Boy Scout councils in the nation in their fight against child abuse.
