Got Fishing Chops? Take the Stew Lant Lake Hopatcong Challenge

The Knee Deep Club hosts annual fishing contest featuring cash prizes and seven Rod and Reel Combos for each first-place winner.

Area anglers are invited to put themselves to the test for a weekend of fishing for a chance to win new fishing gear and cash prizes at the Knee Deep Club's annual fishing competition.

The Stew Lant Lake Hopatcong Challenge will take place Saturday starting at 5 a.m. and conclude Sunday at 2 p.m.

The entry fee for Knee-Deep members is $25 and $30 for non-members. The cash prizes are based on an 80 percent payout of all entry fees.

Anglers will receive five, three and two points for first, second and third place entries, respectively, in the categories of Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, Pickerel, Walleye and Channel Catfish. Top finishers will then be judged based on weight, with ties being broken based on which fish was entered earliest.

In the event of a tie in total points, the fisherman with the largest single fish will be the winner. Contestants may only have one place per category, but can continue to enter fish throughout the competition to improve their standings.

Seven Rod and Reel Combos donated by Ramsey Outdoor will also go to the first-place winners in each category.

The Knee Deep Club must receive mail-in entries by next Friday. In-person entries may be received until 8 a.m. next Saturday. Entry forms are available on the Knee Deep Club website.

Interested participants are asked to call 973-663-3826 for more information.
