Protest Shines Light on Drug Abuse After Restaurant Raid

A heroin-trafficking ring that was apparently under surveillance for six months resulted in a two-hour protest in Lake Hopatcong Sunday, as a war on drugs found its battleground at the River Styx Grill.

Some 75 residents lined the sidewalks around the restaurant for two hours Sunday, according to njherald.com, trying to bring attention to havoc drugs of wrought on the town.

River Styx Grill was raided on Aug. 6 after authorities arrested its owner, John Davieau, of Jefferson, for his role in trafficking heroin between Essex, Sussex and Morris Counties.

Davieau is currently charged with more than 90 counts of drug possession and distribution.

Organized by Robin DeLorenzo and Robin Calandriello, both of Hopatcong, the protest claimed H.A.D.: Hopatcong Against Drugs. Born through social media, the Facebook page for the event had solicited more than 1,700 invitees prior to Sunday.

Protestors lined the streets and sat in water crafts on Lake Hopatcong with signs and messages, the report said, with passersby taking it in for their own knowledge.

As of Sunday, there was a Weichert “For Sale” sign on the River Styx Grill property.
