Vanderhoof Raises $7,200 for Make-A-Wish

Hopatcong boy who battled brain tumor donates money to foundation that helped him realize a dream.

Brandon Vanderhoof, 13, and the rest of his team hoped to raise at least $5,000 to donate to the charity that helped him realize his dream.

He did that, and then some.

Vanderhoof's "Team Dolphin" participated in the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Walk for Wishes at Liberty Park in Jersey City on Sunday. The crew raised $7,200 between 16 members—the second-highest total.

"We would just like to thank everyone who donated for their support with Brandon's quest to help other sick children," said Todd Vanderhoof, Brandon's father. "A special thanks to the  faculty and Hawks soccer program for their support."

In 2008, the Make-A-Wish Foundation sent Brandon, who battled a brain tumor, to Florida to swim with dolphins. Recent surgeries removed the remaining bits of tumor in Brandon's brain.
