At Home….Down East

The Atrium Art Gallery located at the Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College is proud to present its latest art exhibit with paintings by David John Rush of Byram Township.  The exhibit opened on Saturday, August 25 and will continue through Saturday, October 20.

At Home, Down East is a montage of Maine images in watercolor and oil. Asked why he picked Maine as his theme, Mr. Rush explained, “It’s still the rugged frontier of the east coast.  For me it holds the mystery of the sea and the strength of nature”.

Mr. Bryan Zellmer, Assistant Cultural Affairs Director for Sussex County College is pleased to have Mr. Rush as this fall’s guest artist and added, “After viewing Mr. Rush’s paintings, you can’t help but conjure up all that there is about Maine…it’s  fresh air, sandy beaches, farmland and beautiful country vista’s….it’s all right here for our guests to enjoy.”

Mr. Rush added, “Maine is an artist’s dream with its perfect light for painting and its weathered and worn buildings that stand the test of time and imagination.   You always get a good feeling about being At Home….Down East.”

Sussex County Community College and the Atrium Art Gallery at the Performing Arts Center are located at One College Hill Road, Newton, N. J.  Exhibit hours are from 8AM to 8PM, Monday through Friday.  Viewing on Saturday and Sunday will only be during performance times.  Please refer to the Performing Arts Center Schedule at www.sussex.edu or call 973-300-3171 for more information.
