Hopatcong's Thyme Out! Closes Indefinitely

Pair of restaurant's owners cite business issues.

After in July, will close indefinitely, two of the restuarant's owners confirmed Tuesday.

Owners Lynn LoPorto and Roy Malmendier, in separate telephone interviews, cited "business issues" as the reason for the abrupt closing. Malmendier said Thyme Out! plans to reopen.

"We're just doing some paperwork and stuff that needs to be done," Malmendier said. "Shouldn't be too long. Maybe a few weeks, the longest.

"[We're] not considering shutting down for good."

Collette Malmendier-Ioffredo and Linda D. Frazier also own Thyme Out!

you need to hire a chef who knows how to run a kitchen. your ideas are good, but not executed properly. Good quality food and customers first and you will succeed. I wish you all the luck in the world. we need your business in this town. What comes to mind is comfort food, not just pizza or chinese.

Who doesn't cook breakfast at 1230? This place and if you do they look at you like you have six heads. Bring back parkside

I like Roy the chef. His food was good, it just took the waitress too long to get him the order.

We have a Dunkin' Donuts 2 buildings away. A coffee shop can not work there.

I wouldn't consider Thyme Out a coffee shop. Last time I checked DD did not serve roasted chicken. ;-)

For the person who said "no breakfast after 12:30 that was and will again simply be not true. We did stop a few item at 11-12 during the week (we were not a Diner and breakfast was available till 4 pm daily, All day Sunday and full Breakfast menu till 1 ish on Saturday. As far as needing a chef that was not the problem Owners and employees who did not follow Chefs Recipes were. As in the words of many Regulars "best food in Hopatcong Esp. Burgers, Soups, and other entree's

Slow down with the "best" anything....it was good and I will always help out a local eatery. The service needs to be addressed ASAP if the place has a real chance. Many people go there because we all know the owners and want them to succeed. Please do not be so defensive and make the place that you all dreamed of when you made the venture.
Le Roy Malmendier January 19, 2012 at 05:23 PM
No disillusions I was just stating what was said about Food by many customers. For the most part food was not the problem there are always things that pop up as in any Restaurant. Service was definatly the biggest misstep and will be addressed.

You should hire Kim back. She was one of the best there and took her job seriously.

I suggest to you as an owner...leave it alone! You should just read these comments and privately address. Just helping...Good Luck!

Just want to re echo to poor service. We went there once and had to wait so long for our food that we vowed never to go back. I tried convincing my wife that we should give it a second chance but her mind is hard to change once an initial impression is created. I would suggest you change the name so people think that this time is a fresh start (even though it might not really be).

I thought the food was excellent as well. The problem was the service big time. Sometimes when the service is so bad it's very hard to enjoy what your eating regardless of how good it is due to the aggravation. For my family the food was worth the wait. I really hope you do reopen soon because I am sick of asking my family whose pizza they want every Friday when we order out.

Saw a For Sale/Lease sign up. I guess it's closed for good?

This town needs a real diner. Shouldn't have to go to Roxbury or Randolph (which we did last week, usually good, but the caesar salad with chicken was terrible.) These little luncheonettes just don't cut it and the outside is very uninviting. Been in Hopatcong for 20+ years and I still feel like most of these little shops are for some other brand of local. It is not inviting. Seriously, Franks is inviting. Even Parma Johns is inviting. something about Glass doors so you can see inside...? It just looks like a converted corner bar. Seriously, look at the rainy-day pic next to this article. does that make me want to eat there? really? no. Here's an idea since knocking out the walls for windows is probably not in your budget -- get some plants, even small trees in pots with some white lights on them, Donate to the high school art department if the kids will paint a great mural or something on the outside walls. Anything.
