1,900 Homes Should Have Power Sunday Night, Mayor Told

Halloween cancelled for Monday due to unsafe roads.

There will be no Halloween on Monday, but on the bright side, nearly 2,000 Hopatcong homes will no longer be in the dark by Sunday night, Mayor Sylvia Petillo was told by JCP&L.

According to Petillo, 1,900 borough JCP&L customers will have power restored on Sunday and 300 more expected on Monday.

About 72 percent of Hopatcong remained without power Sunday afternoon with 4,694 outages as of about 2 p.m.

Due to the unsafe road conditions, trick-or-treating has been cancelled in Hopatcong.

The high school shelter remains open and pets are welcome. Petillo said if residents don't have their own crates, the high school can provide them with one.

Ice is available at Fire House No. 3 across the street from Dunkin' Donuts.

72% without power, where are the 28% who have it? I can't seem to find 1%...

It would be extremely helpful if some indication of which homes in hopatcong will have power. Not everyone is staying in the high school. People have left and providing that information, with the gas situation as it is, would be extremely helpful.

Is Byram cove on the list to be restored? Northwood road is a complete mess

Please be more specific as to where the work is being done and power restored along with where it hopefully will be restored. No one I've spoken to knows of anyone with power.

Most definitely it won't be Hopatcong Heights. Those trees down on Harris & completely tangled in cables, have had at least 3 different crews assessing them with no change.

Only the Boro Hall and surrounding area seem to have power.

Lower River Styx to the bridge just went back on.

Does anyone know where the restoration is? We're staying in andover til the power comes back on.

Friends on River Styx Road got power back. Have noticed trucks out working today. We need to take time to thank all the workers who are leaving their families to help us and be a little patient. Think positive it makes us all feel better

The area by Pavincis is on now.

Thick positive...let's see...its been almost a week to the day that we lost power....temperature is colder each overnight..no running water...while I am grateful for what has been done up to this point, I think I speak for many when I say that my patience has run very thin... Would have informative to all if they made the town residents aware of what areas would be receiving power...they obviously knew what areas were going to be addressed first and by telling people, they would ease people's already frantic minds...just sayin people..

I tend to agree with previous comments that more specific information regarding restoration would be greatly appreciated given that some of us are caring for elderly parents elsewhere n can't make the daily drive to the area. Txs

http://thealternativepress.com/towns/hopatcong/articles/hopatcong-borough-still-completely-without-power " The Borough of Hopatcong has been working closely with JCP&L, and, the utility is in the process of putting poles back up, and removing wires from trees, to make roads accessible. From there, the mayor has been told it will be approximately another seven to 10 days without power, and, for outer areas, approximately an additional seven to 10 days."

Wonder if petillo's house has power? Does she even live in Hopatcong?
Melissa Belasco November 05, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Thank you, Alice. I think all of us here are trying to think positive and get back to our everyday lives. There are lots of people in our town without heat, power or water. There is no doubt that we are all grateful to the line workers, but I think we can all do without the mystery of who is going to get power today.

Whats the status of Northwood Road/Lakeside Blvd
Inthedarkstill November 05, 2012 at 04:15 PM
@Joe they just cleared the one at the top of Bell near Dupont!!! I would suspect since that line powers the back end of town we will be out for some time due to the carnage further down the line.(could be wrong).. ask the mayor oops she's MIA..I believe it goes Tree work -> JCP_L (7-10 days standard response) -> Verizon/Cable service, then throw the switch.... my thoughts get the power back first then schedule the nice to haves, power is essential to survive these bitter nights cable not so much.. .. Thanks tree guys from Asplundh your hardwork is appreciated.

How about smoke rise/shawnee area? You'd think that would be restored, being right near 3 & 1 and such! I have a bad feeling I'm coming home to a dark/cold house again :(
Inthedarkstill November 05, 2012 at 11:22 PM
any updates on the Mickey mouse numbers JCP&L is bragging about? The majority of Hopatcong is still without power....
Mick2b November 07, 2012 at 01:28 PM
A clear estimation of worst case scenerios for my area would be nice. I have now spent money on hotels in efforts to keep my family warm and safe. Neighbors in the Heights have heard the possibilty of Thanksgiving. If I knew this I could have had my family safely in North Carolina. Some informtation would be nice. I am not holding out too much hope as the main line was still down in front of my house and that huge tree on Harris is untouched and still being cradled by the wire. Some communication and information is a fair request, it is the only way to make good decisions.

Just called and their official statement is they expect to have most of Hopatcong up by midnight on Sunday 11/11. The service person could not give me percentages or sepcific areas. She advised me that if I could make other arraingements I should. I am in the Heights area.
