5 Things About the State Park You Didn't Know

With the warm weather in full effect, here are answers to a few questions you might have had about the Hopatcong State Park.

The sun has been shining on Hopatcong for the last few days. And boaters have taken the chance to clean off their vessels and float out onto Lake Hopatcong.

Here are a few things you might not have known about the state park.

  1. You Might Not Have Known How Much It Costs to Get In: Right now, it's free. So go crazy. But from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day, it costs a New Jersey resident $6 per vehicle and a out-of-state resident $10 to get in during weekdays; a New Jersey resident $10 and an out-of-state resident $20 to get in on weekends; and $3 for anybody walking or bicycling in, anytime.
  2. You Might Not Have Known When You Can Swim: From Memorial Day through Labor Day while lifeguards are on duty. But don't bring in flotation devices, such as inner tubes or rafts, or you'll be thrown out.
  3. You Might Not Have Known About Boat-Launching Fees: It's $12 per launch if you're a New Jersey resident; $20 if you're from out of state. For an annual boat-launching pass, it's $60 per state resident and $80 per out-of-state boat owner. The fees are charged from April 1 until the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend. The fees start back up again after Labor Day and through Oct. 31.
  4. You Might Not Have Known Lake Hopatcong's Dimensions: It's 9 miles long and covered by 2,500 acres of freshwater.
  5. You Might Not Not Have Known About Carry-In, Carry-Out: The state park will provide garbage bags. It's up to you to toss them out.
