Mayor Sylvia Petillo declared Monday, June 13, to be in honor of one of the best high school athletes Hopatcong has seen.

  1. You Need to Know Who He Is: Matt Tobin, a senior, is a member of a family steeped in borough basketball tradition. His father, Dennis, was the all-time scorer in Sussex County history for a period. His siblings, Mike and Meghan, each scored more than 1,000 points in their high school careers. And his uncle, Jim, has coached the Chiefs since the primordial soup.
  2. You Need to Know What He's Done: Matt Tobin is one of Sussex County's most decorated players. A guard, Tobin , surpassing and Chris Jent, a Sparta graduate who's coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers.
  3. You Need to Know Where He's Going: Despite murmurs of Division 1 interest, Tobin will play basketball next fall at D 2 East Stroudsburg University. Mike Tobin also played there for four seasons, earning All-PSAC East men's second team honors after averaging 10.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a game this season.
  4. You Need to Know He's Got Baseball Skills: Tobin won Hopatcong baseball's Most Improved Player award this spring for his transformation from inexperienced second baseman to a fixture in the Chiefs' lineup.
