5 Things You Need to Know This Week

Because Hopatcong's a happenin' place if you know where to look.

  1. You Need to Know About Presidents Day: Sure, it's a holiday for most. But it's also a borough holiday, meaning the municipal building will be closed. That doesn't mean, however, all has slowed. The Parents on the Lake group, which meets to help parents with children with special needs, will still gather at the Hopatcong Senior Citizens Center at 7 p.m. Monday.
  2. You Need to Know About the Fate of Lake Hopatcong's Weeds: That'll be decided Tuesday at a Lake Hopatcong Commission meeting. The commission will decide whether to hand over its weed harvesters to the state, which would then take responsibility over the weeds. Patch asked readers recently what they thought of the idea. Click here to see what they said.
  3. You Need to Know About Land Use: Hopatcng's land-use board will meet at the municipal building at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. It's last meeting, two weeks ago, was canceled. It will be the board's second meeting since forming at the start of the year.
  4. You Need to Know About Evening Hours: The municipal building will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday night. It holds one late night a month.
  5. You Need to Know About the Community Garden: Another status update will be given by organizers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Click here for our latest on the project, set to open in the spring near the ambulance squad building.
