It's beginning to look a lot like … a really busy day in the borough. And while it's starting to look a lot like Christmas, too—just check the Hopatchung Road decorations—let's start with the immediate future.

Here are five things you need to know today.

  1. You Need to Know About the Council: It will meet for the last time of the year at 7:30 p.m. at the . It will also be Madeline McManus' last meeting as a councilwoman. Estelle Klein will replace the four-term veteran in January.
  2. You Need to Know About a Special School Budget Meeting: The Hopatcong Board of Education will fashion some of its 2012-2013 budget goals at 7 p.m. at the . Superintendent Dr. Charles Maranzano said the meeting is an attempt at streamlining the budget process for school board members and keeping the process transparent for the public. School Business Administrator Theresa Sierchio called it a lay-of-the-land meeting where she will ask board members to explain what's most important to them.
  3. You Need to Know About a Financial Aid Seminar: will host a financial aid seminar to help students considering college.
  4. You Need to Know About the Women's Club: It will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the , and it's always looking for members.
  5. You Need to Know About Police Crackdown: The Hopatcong police department will be from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2 with increased patrols around the borough.
