Big Bass at Lake Hopatcong Fishing Contest

Winners grab cash prizes at Stew Lant Lake Hopatcong Challenge.

Talk about some big bass fish.

Jefferson's Ed Mackin won Saturday's Knee Deep Club-sponsored Stew Lant Lake Hopatcong Challenge.

Mackin's 15 points earned him $310, or half of the event's prize pool. Mackin reeled in a 3-pound, 13-ounce largemouth bass; a 6-pound, 13-ounce hybrid striped bass; a 3-pound, 1-ounce smallmouth bass; a 4-pound, 6-ounce Walleye and a 1-pound, 12-ounce pickerel.

Thirty-one anglers participated in the event, which cost $25 each and raised $155 for the club's stocking fund.

Jefferson's 10-year-old Hunter Good took second place and brought home $186. Good raked in 12 points, catching a 3-pound, 4-ounce smallmouth bass; 2-pound, 1-ounce pickerel; and a 6-pound, 5-ounce hybrid striped bass.

Mount Arlington's Lou Marcucci finished third, collecting $124. Marcucci brought in a 7-pound, 9-ounce hybrid striped bass and a 1-pound, 14-ounce pickerel.
