Cops: Woman Put Rocks In Road, Caused Crash

Resident refused to remove rocks even after accident, police said.

Two cars collided on May 18 because a Hopatcong woman placed rocks 8 feet into the roadway, police said.

Simona Hermeneanu, 43, was charged with obstructing highways.

Police said they responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Penn State Trail and Dartmouth Trail. Police said one of the drivers involved said he had to swerve into the middle of the road to avoid the rocks, but hit an oncoming car. Nobody was injured in the accident, police said.

Police said the rocks extended off Hermeneanu's property and that she said she placed them there to prevent people from driving on her land. Police said they told Hermeneanu to remove the rocks because they were in the roadway, but she refused.

Police said they issed Hermeneanu a summons and removed the rocks.
