Couple Charged with $20K Theft in Court Soon

Matthew Simon and Stacey Siegel, police say, used Hopatcong Hawks Soccer Club funds to cover a trip to Los Angeles in 2011.

The Hopatcong couple accused of using $20,000 of youth soccer club funds to cover a trip to Los Angeles will be in court Wednesday.

Matthew Simon and Stacey Siegel are scheduled for a 9 a.m. status conference before Judge Peter Conforti at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton.

Simon and Siegel were charged in January 2011 with theft and conspiracy to commit theft for soccer club to finance a trip with their children to Disneyland.

Hopatcong police said the alleged thefts occurred between September 2009 and October 2010.

Siegal was the club’s treasurer. Simon was its president.

last September that would have had each of them serve a 45-day jail sentence, probation and return the stolen funds.

The pair were scheduled for a hearing in June, but it was postponed.
