Football, Contracts and Solar Power — The Week in Review

The first Warriors football practice, a Planning Board meeting and the school district's plans are just some of the week's highlights.

Lots of people tend to slow down in mid-August. Some vacation. Others skip work for a family day. Some schedule afternoon naps because the heat and humidity can wear you out.

Not Hopatcong Patch.

We recently invested in a coffee-filled IV, three muscle-bound men to hit us each time we blink and, in case the muscle-bound men blink, chimpanzees trained to tug our ears every two seconds.

Sunday

Kicked off the week with a column detailing my first week as Hopatcong Patch's editor, rife with—what else?—self insults. Then we had a video in which Mayor Sylvia Petillo talked about PSE&G giving the borough a generator.

Monday

Started the day with a story about the Board of Education endorsing the idea of solar power for the district. Followed that with some youth softball playoff action and news that the . Finally, we told you about Coast Guards inspecting boats at Johnny's Marina.

Tuesday

Stopped by the high school girls' tennis team's captains' practice. Then hit up a 5 W's story on Hopatcong's Community Resolution Committee. Finished with a brief review of the youth softball team's playoff experience.

Wednesday

The Planning Board explained that AT&T, which owns land in town, should either build the cell phone tower it promised or get out. The Grotto told us all about their renovations. Later, the Hopatcong Warriors youth football program went through their first practice of the season. (This happened Monday, but we wanted to get the story right.) Ended things with news of the Boy Scouts' regatta from Sunday.

Thursday

Got the lowdown on the school's new summer school program, from the school's perspective. Then we ran over to Modick Park to talk to the locals about a recently released poll saying New Jersey voters think the state should stop spending. After that came a overview of Smiling Dogs' newest service and safety tips for senior citizens.

Friday

Began things with a feature on Carmen LoPorto, the town's budding child actor. Followed that up with a look ahead to the weekend's activities. Then it was onto a listing of the weekend's open houses and a video of a crazy water balloon fight at Modick Park, which occurred during Byram Bay Christian Church's "Crazy Days of Summer."

Saturday

We saw the Photo of the Week, in which a budding Warriors quarterback received instruction at the team's first practice on Monday. Then we hit you with this oh-so-comprehensive week in review.
