Governor's Announcement, Money Topped Last Week's Headlines

Your chance to catch up on the borough's biggest news.

Once again, Hopatcong saw a crazy week, from the state's biggest politician announcing he's coming to the borough to the Chiefs' star basketball player setting a Sussex County record. And, yet, there was more. But in case you missed it, here's our Week in Review.

  • GOV. TO HOPATCONG: Easily the biggest news Hopatcong's seen this side of Joe Martinek. Gov. Chris Christie is coming to Hopatcong on Wednesday for a town hall meeting at St. Jude's Parish at 10:30 a.m. Doors open at 9:45 p.m.
  • ONE MORE RECORD: Hopatcong senior Matt Tobin passed Chris Jent as Sussex County's all-time leading scorer Monday night. Tobin will play at Division 2 East Stroudsburg University next year. Tobin also passed the 2,000-point mark and beat his dad's school record this year.
  • FORE! Thousand dollars, that is, which is what the Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge donated to Hopatcong's parent-funded golf team on Friday night. The money will be used to pay for greens fees, transportation and shirts, according to team parent Randy Sickles.
  • MORE MONEY TALK: Hopatcong's parent-funded marching band asked the Board of Education for $6,500 at Monday's meeting.
  • WHAT'S HE DO? Hopatcong's fire chief is has a day job, of course. Just not one you'd expect. Mike Rahill runs a bindery in Jefferson, one of just three in the state.
