Hopatcong Club Plans to Stock Lake, Host Fishing Contest

Knee Deep Club thaws after long winter.

Warmer weather means more activity on Lake Hopatcong.

Hopatcong's Knee Deep Club plans to stock the lake with 2,300 trout, ranging from 13 to 20 inches, on April 3 at Dow's Boat Rental in Lake Hopatcong.

"The public is welcome to observe and participate in this event," club member Lou Marcucci said in an e-mail. Marcucci also said several patio boats would be available for stocking.

Then the club will host a pickerel contest on April 16 from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. It'll cost $20 for club members and $5 more for non-club member due to insurance costs, Marcucci said. Eighty percent of entry fees will go to the anglers weighing the three heaviest pickerel.

Entry forms are available at kneedeepclub.org or at Dow's or Lake's End Marina in Landing. Mail-in entries must be received on April 15. People can enter the contest until at 8 a.m. on April 16.
