Hopatcong Man Reels In $330 Fish

Borough resident Jim Smith finishes second during two-day Lake Hopatcong fishing contest.

While hundreds gathered to celebrate Hopatcong Days, borough resident Jim Smith was busy turning a hobby into cash.

Smith brought home $330 after finishing second in Saturday and Sunday's Hybrid Striped Bass Fishing Contest, sponsored by the Knee Deep Club. Smith had an 8-pound, 15-ounce catch. He received an additional 25 percent of his award since he entered the club's bonus plan.

Smith was one of 55 anglers who participated in the event, which raised $1,100. Of that number, 20 percent, or $220, went into the club's stocking fund, leaving a $880 prize pool.
