Knee Deep Club: Warm Spell Shouldn't Melt Ice-Fishing Contest

134 anglers competed in the club's January contest.

Tough to find someone complaining about the recent warm spell that's hit the Lake Hopatcong area.

Knee Deep Club President Les Aughey hasn't seemed to mind the weather, either, though it could hamper Sunday's ice-fishing contest. But Aughey said he wasn't concerned Friday afternoon.

"We should be OK," Aughey said. "It shouldn't be that bad."

The KDC's January contest brought out 134 anglers, raising $536 for its stocking fund and $2,144 in prize.

Fishermen will compete in three divisions—pickerel, perch/crappie and other—from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Cost: $20 for club members, $25 for the public. Entry forms are available at kneedeepclub.org or at Dow's Boat Rental and Lake's End Marina. In-person entries can be made until 8 a.m. Sunday.
