Lake Hopatcong: 'No Wake' Rules Lifted

Lake falls below high-water level for first time in a while.

Lake Hopatcong fell below high-water mark for the first time in more than a week, allowing boaters to create wake on the waters.

The lake was measured at 9.47 feet at 9:15 a.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The high-water mark is 9.5.

The water level was recorded at higher than 10.5 feet on Sept. 9 following Hurricane Irene and heavy rains. The water level is recorded at the Lake Hopatcong Dam on the Musconetcong River in Landing.

The lake's highest recorded height was 11.8 feet on Aug. 13, 2000 while the lowest was .65 feet on Dec. 29, 1960, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
