Longtime Firefighter Dies, Poor Conditions at Motel Top Local News

Dick Terwillegar, a former captain of Hopatcong Defiance Engine Co. No. 3 and a 25-year borough employee died on Wednesday. Terwillegar, who died after a battle with several illnesses according to his obituary, was 76.

Hopatcong police responded to the Lakeside Motel looking for three men with outstanding warrants but would end up arresting two more people, and summonses are expected to be issued due to the hotel's conditions.

The plan to reassess borough properties met Wednesday with objections from two residents as the Borough Council introduced an ordinance seeking $300,000 in an emergency appropriation to conduct a reassessment of the homes and businesses in the borough.
