Museum to Chart Lake Hopatcong's Rise as Resort Destination

A look at the Hotel Breslin in 1887.

Editor's note: The following is from the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum.

The single most important factor in Lake Hopatcong’s rise as a great resort was the construction of the Hotel Breslin in 1887.

The hotel was encircled by elegant cottages, many of which still stand today.  The development, known as Breslin Park, brought the rich and famous to Lake Hopatcong – including the 24th Vice President of the United States, Garret Hobart.
