$157,500 Annually For Incoming Hopatcong Schools Chief

Cynthia Randina, the former Secaucus schools superintendent, takes over at the same position for Hopatcong in July. She was given a 5-year contract by the board of education, and will make an annual base salary of $157,500.

Preceding Randina is Charles Maranzano, who was at the helm of Hopatcong Schools for four years. Maranzano said he was proud of his tenure and the direction the district is now headed.

Facebook Posts Thwart Students’ Fake Pot Prank

A concerned parent brought suspicious comments found on Facebook to police just a couple days before the end of the school year. An investigation revealed three male students were planning a senior prank that included fake marijuana.

12 Residents Seek 6 Seats on School Boards

With the filing deadline to run for a board of education seat in November coming in early June, there was a flurry of activity in Hopatcong and Sparta, as some incumbents bowed out, while first-timers and newcomers joined the fray. All in all, a dozen residents are seeking seats on the two boards.
